John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

    • Family Of Man Wrongfully Accused By Shaun King Receives Threats

By Molly Prince - The family of a white man who was wrongfully accused of gunning down a 7-year-old black girl has continued to receive death threats even after he was officially determined not to have any involvement in the crime. Robert Cantrell was accused of killing Jazmine Barnes in a racially-motivated drive-by shooting in northeast Houston. Barnes was sitting in the backseat of her mother’s car on Dec. 30 when another vehicle pulled up alongside and began spraying bullets. The crime received national attention after Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and activist Shaun King began to promote a narrative that a white man murdered Barnes, which they continued to push even after they received a tip that a 20-year-old black man named Eric Black Jr. and another individual had shot Barnes. King widely circulated a sketch of the alleged perpetrator along with Cantrell’s mugshot. Cantrell, who had been arrested on unrelated felony charges resembled the composite. In a now-deleted tweet, King asked his more than one million followers for information on Cantrell. “What more can you tell me about Robert Cantrell? He was arrested in Houston hours after Jazmine was murdered on another violent crime spree,” King tweeted. “We’ve had 20 people call or email us and say he is a racist, violent asshole and always has been. Just tell me everything you know.” Despite the arrest of two black men for their involvement in the crime, Cantrell and his family continue to receive threats. Hailey Cantrell, Robert’s niece told ABC7 that they are still being posted on Facebook. “I hear, ‘Someone is going to rape, torture and murder the women and children in your family,” Hailey read. “I just want everyone to back off,” Hailey said. “The truth is out. It had nothing to do with us, nothing to do with my uncle at all.” Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience. • Americans Support Trump’s Calls To Bring Troops Home From Afghanistan And Syria: Poll

By Grace Carr - A majority of Americans support President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops fighting in Syria and Afghanistan, according to a Tuesday Politico poll. Twenty-five percent of Americans strongly support the decision to bring home troops from Afghanistan and Syria, and 31 percent somewhat support the decision, according to the poll. Only 11 percent strongly oppose the decision to bring home U.S. troops, and 16 percent somewhat oppose the decision. Just under 20 percent aren’t sure what Trump should do. The president has sought to bring home troops from Syria since April. Trump announced in December that he would bring home 2,000 troops in Syria and roughly 7,000 of the 14,000 American soldiers in Afghanistan, according to The Atlantic. “After many years they are coming home,” Trump tweeted on Dec. 23. The poll results are based on responses from 1,989 registered voters who were surveyed between Jan. 4 and 6. Politico’s poll also reveals that 47 percent of Americans blame Trump for the government shut down, while 33 percent blame Democrats in Congress. Forty-six percent of Americans also have a “totally unfavorable” view of Democrats in Congress, according to the poll. A majority of Americans believe passing an immigration reform bill is an important priority, but the country is split on whether to erect a border wall, the poll reveals. Thirty percent of the country strongly supports a border wall along the border of Mexico, while 37 percent strongly oppose the wall, according to Politico. Trump addressed the nation Tuesday night, speaking on the importance of immigration reform and revealing his plan to build a steel barrier along the southern border. He also addressed concerns regarding the safety of migrant children and humanitarian aid. The president will travel to the U.S.-Mexico border to “meet with those on the front lines of the national security and humanitarian crisis,” according to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders. Tuesday night’s address was Trump’s first prime-time Oval Office address. Only 37 percent of Americans think the country is headed in the right direction, according to the poll. Sixty-three percent say it’s headed in the wrong direction.
