John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Deported Army Veteran Wins Fight for US Citizenship

Why is it that the offenses that these people have been convicted of is so deminished when these feel good posts are made.

This is all that was said about what he did to get thrown in jail.

Barajas was convicted in 2002 of shooting at an occupied vehicle and served two years in prison.

I'm sorry but we are to pay for what we do, just like anyone else and the lack of information about what he did is staggering..Serving in the military does nothing to excuse any crime that he was convicted of and If we are to look at a man for being a man, then we need to look at the whole of that man and not cherry pick through his greatest hits.

I have known from the age of about twelve that if you do the crime, you do the time and accept the consequences. As an Illegal, he did the crime, period. This nation has lost it; s bearing.

The governor pardoned him because he was an illegal. The left has never cared for people who have been in the military. They are just using his military service to try and stick us in the eye. they don't even care about the people who were in the car he shot at.

    • Federal Judge Orders Removal Of Citizenship Question From 2020 Census

By Kevin Daley - A federal judge in New York barred the Trump administration from including a citizenship question on the 2020 census questionnaire. The decision appears to have significant implications for a related matter the Supreme Court is poised to decide in the spring. “The attempts by the Trump administration to mandate a question about citizenship were not rooted in a desire to strengthen the census process and would only undermine our immigrant communities,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement. “Inciting fear in our residents is not only immoral, but also ill-conceived.” The Constitution mandates a census every ten years to apportion seats in the House of Representatives among the states. Population is also used as a basis for rewarding federal aid. A coalition of Democratic cities, states, and interest groups challenged the addition of a citizenship question to the census questionnaire in April 2018, warning it would discourage minority participation. An incomplete survey of minority populations, the plaintiffs feared, would result in diminished federal funds and congressional representation for urban areas. The plaintiffs charged that the addition of the citizenship question violated the Constitution and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA), a federal law establishing protocols for the issuance of regulations. In his Tuesday decision, U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman accepted the plaintiffs’ APA claims while rejecting their constitutional arguments. “[Ross] failed to consider several important aspects of the problem; alternately ignored, cherry-picked, or badly misconstrued the evidence in the record before him; acted irrationally both in light of that evidence and his own stated decisional criteria; and failed to justify significant departures from past policies and practices — a veritable smorgasbord of classic, clear-cut APA violations,” Furman wrote. Elsewhere in the decision, Furman said Ross was not truthful about his motives for adding a citizenship question. Though the secretary initially said publicly that the question was added at the request of the Department of Justice, subsequent evidence showed Ross discussed the matter with White House aides far earlier than initially understood. “Finally, and perhaps most egregiously, the evidence is clear that Secretary Ross’s rationale was pretextual — that is, that the real reason for his decision was something other than the sole reason he put forward in his memorandum,” Furman wrote. Former President Barack Obama elevated Furman to the federal bench in 2012. The plaintiffs sought a deposition from Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross at a previous phase of the litigation. The Department of Commerce oversees the Census Bureau, and Ross himself authorized the addition of the citizenship question. Though Furman authorized the Ross deposition, the Supreme Court intervened to stop it in October 2018. Shortly thereafter in November 2018, the high court agreed to decide what evidence Furman could rely upon when making his decision. When plaintiffs challenge agency action in court, the agency itself generally turns over the body of documents and evidence it relied upon to make its decision. Those writings are called the administrative record. In most cases of this nature, the court will make its decision based only on the administrative record. However, Furman allowed the plaintiffs to gather evidence beyond the administrative record to challenge the citizenship question. The Supreme Court agreed to decide whether that decision was correct. The Justice Department may appeal Furman’s decision. Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience. • California Sanctuary Law Allowed Twice-Deported Illegal Immigrant To Embark On Murderous ‘Reign Of Terror’

By Grace Carr - A twice-deported illegal immigrant felon killed a man and injured numerous others Sunday, and authorities are blaming the criminal’s violent actions on California’s sanctuary state law for allowing the violence to occur. Gustavo Garcia, 36, shot a farm worker in Tulare County in California Sunday before stealing $2,000 from an AA Gas and Grub mini mart in Exeter, The Washington Post reported Thursday. Garcia went on to shoot a woman in the parking lot of a Motel 6 in Tulare, spray bullets into a Shell gas station, shoot and kill a man at a second gas station in Visalia, and finally attack his ex-girlfriend’s house, the Post reported. The farm worker and motel occupant are expected to survive, according to the Post. Authorities describe Garcia’s 24-hour violent rampage as a “reign of terror,” according to the Post. Garcia stole a truck and drove at speeds exceeding 100 mph in an attempt to evade police following his shooting spree, according to Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux. Garcia collided with multiple vehicles before flying through the car’s windshield. Four people were taken to the hospital with injuries, and one remains in critical condition, according to the Post. Garcia was arrested on Dec. 13 for erratic behavior. He tested positive for drugs and spent 10 hours in custody before he was released. “f we could have reached out to our law enforcement counterparts, these acts of violence could have been prevented,” Boudreaux said, according to the Post. “That tool has been removed from our hands,” he added. “And because of that, our county was shot up by a violent criminal.” The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office was forced to release Garcia because it is prohibited from enforcing detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), under California’s sanctuary state law. The law, Senate Bill 54, passed in September 2017. Law enforcement may only act on detainer requests if ICE presents an arrest warrant signed by a federal judge. Garcia was deported in 2004 and again in 2014, ICE said in a Wednesday statement. Following his second entry into the U.S., Garcia spent 27 months in prison for illegal reentry. He had also previously been convicted of armed robbery, according to authorities, the Post reported. Garcia’s violent spree is “an unfortunate and extremely tragic example of how public safety is impacted with laws or policies limiting local law enforcement agencies ability to cooperate with ICE,” ICE officials said a statement, according to the Post. Authorities are investigating a second homicide that Garcia may be responsible for. • Man Who Allegedly Stabbed Father Of Seven To Death Had Been Deported Six Times

By Jason Hopkins - It’s been discovered that a man who is currently sitting in a U.S. jail cell for a grisly murder had already been deported back to his home country of Mexico a total of six times. Local law enforcement in Pasco, Washington announced back in February that detectives, with the help of the FBI, were able to extradite Mexican national Adan Virgen-Ponce and place him into custody. Virgen-Ponce had been wanted by police for a murder that took place over eight years ago. He is suspected of stabbing to death Froilan Godines on February 7, 2010, at El Patron, a nightclub and restaurant in the town of Pasco. The altercation transpired when Godines, who was working as a doorman for El Patron, had confronted Virgen-Ponce for trying to leave the nightclub with alcohol. The argument ultimately led to Virgen-Ponce fatally stabbing him multiple times. Police were able to quickly identify Virgen-Ponce as a suspect at the time, but he had evaded capture by fleeing back to his home country of Mexico. However, Virgen-Ponce had since been sentenced to prison in Mexico, and was serving jail time when U.S. authorities were able to extradite him back to Washington state. He has been charged with first-degree murder. The February arrest brought long-due closure for Godines’ family members. “Words can’t explain how much we miss him…how much we love him,” Godines’ daughter, Karen, stated to local media shortly after her father’s killer was apprehended by U.S. officials. “And sincerely from the bottom of our heart, I just want to thank him for giving me such a good life and a good family.” Godines was killed two days before his 42nd birthday. He left behind seven children. The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement to learn whether Virgen-Ponce, who had been residing in the country illegally, was ever been deported back to Mexico prior to his February extradition. A spokeswoman confirmed that he had, in fact, been removed from the U.S. a total of six times. “ICE lodged a detainer with the Franklin County Jail on Adan Virgen-Ponce, aka Yovan Lopez-Perez, a citizen of Mexico, after he was arrested on local charges,” ICE  spokesperson Tanya Roman stated to TheDCNF on Friday. “Virgen-Ponce has been removed him [sic] from the U.S. on six prior occasions and he voluntarily returned once. On May 10, 2004, Virgin-Ponce was convicted in U.S. District Court for violation of 8 USC 1325/Present Without Admission and was sentenced to 45-days incarceration.” Virgen-Ponce’s is currently being held in Franklin County jail in Washington state, with bail set at $1,000,000.
