Christian Fellowship

John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Parousia,

From some of your other posts I see that you're Calvinist? Are you also Reformed? Just curious.

God bless,

William

Yes, although I would cringe at stretching that label past the bible's emphasis on God's sovereignty, to the exclusion of man's free will.

Not sure how to answer the second question. From the limited amount I've been exposed to the "Reformed" persuasion, I agree wholeheartedly, but I grew up in an Independent Fundamental Church and then have gone to churches of varying denominations. I am interested in knowing more about the history of the Reformed "camp". :) Not sure if that makes sense? lol

G'day Parousia,

It does make sense and it is praiseworthy that you understand that there is a distinction. Calvinism is a branch of Soteriology, and Reformed is an umbrella term that covers not only Soteriology, but also Covenant Theology, Cessationism, and Amillennialism. Further note, Protestant means more than to just "protest" but actually conveys a Systematic, Evangelical, Catholic (Universal), and Reformed approach to Scripture.

I'm sure you have already noted our Reformed Category. It has lots of great data on the subject matter: https://www.christforums.org/forum/christian-community/reformed-theology/137-what-is-reformed-christian-theology

And I note your cringing and reluctance here Sister, Calvinist are generally frowned upon in today's Christiandom. For FYI, I am a Calvinist, and I am very happy that you have decided to join us.

May your time and efforts here be fruitful, God bless,

William

I'll check out the Reformed Category, thank you. I don't think, at least I hope, my cringing is not at what society thinks, rather at my own temptation to disregard God's commandment to declare the gospel to the lost. I definitely see a larger thrust and appreciation for God's sovereignty in the Bible, in regard to the work of salvation, and therefore would be considered "calvinistic". :)

Coming to this forum is a dream cone true. I'm a Christian since 1984 when I undergo baptism. I attend Apostolic Church. I am one of those who are in haste for rapture.

    • Hey all, just joined under the user name Voice but cant get back on any help here?

Peace be to you all in Christ,   Hey all. I dont wish to be deceptive here since I had just joined the other day under the username Voice, having made just one post, I come back to sign in again but my password wouldnt work and that probably wouldnt be so odd (and pretty common place at times) if this was the only place that has just occurred to me, so I wanted to ask about that. I know we are to have just one username, thats all I wanted but I had no way of contacting the board but to rejoin through another, I hope in this case that could be overlooked.   Also, how do you PM here? I am lost anyone know?   Thanks for any help

    • Joined a Gym!

Put in my first workout last night after years of sitting behind a computer. Brought back memories of my long hours in the gym when I worked out with a passion and I felt very motivated. I used to take lifting very seriously. Several years ago my best was 385lbs x 3 when I weighed 206 with less than 3% body fat. Now I'm 220 with probably 20%+ body fat. I realize I can't go by the scale while doing heavy weight training because muscle gain weighs more. Either I hope to knock off my fat and remain at this weight with less than 7-8% body fat or get back down to my idea weight for my height which is 180.   So I started with a "beginners" workout program that mainly consists of 2 sets 15 reps of each exercise. I'm carrying a notebook in the gym and recording how much I am lifting etc to keep track of improvements. Was done my workout in 45 minutes. But not without injury, I pulled something doing the overhead dumbbell presses in my right should. This morning, luckily, I feel better and do not notice anything other than soreness all over. 48 hours of rest is recommended between these workout routines.   https://www.bodybuilding.com/content...y-workout.html   God bless, William
