John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Franklin Graham Aids FBI in Resolving Standoff at Oregon Wildlife Refuge

Recommended Posts

Democrats were demanding bloodshed, taunting authorities as racist if blood wasn't spilled. There was no reason for anyone to be shot. There was no reason for a small army of armed feds to ambush the ranchers on the road. The peaceful protest in the middle-of-nowhere was causing no harm and presented no imminent danger. The protest itself was self-punishment (worse than house arrest) and would have ended when the ranchers tired of it.

Kuddos to Franklin Graham letting the ranchers know they had some sympathy among prominent Americans, and that the ranchers succeeded in putting their case before the American people and it was time to end the protest. And, maybe this protest will encourage federal bureaucrats make better balanced land management decisions in the future.

BTW, I haven't seen anyone comment on this, but it deserves attention. When one of the ranchers were killed in the ambush, the local sheriff, David Ward, defended the use of force against the ranches in part by saying the protesters were hoping to "spark a movement across the United States.” In essence, sheriff admitted to the intent of violating the first amendment rights of the ranchers..

I will have somewhat of a different opinion, I have had dealings with federal agents as well as local law enforcement and they are all lying snakes who do what they want with no regard for human life and if you question them you`re done and in my opinion they are no better than any other street gang, yes there are some good ones but the bad outweigh them by a big margin.

I believe law enforcement officials should have to be doubly accountable for the crimes they commit, they should be closely monitored and they should not be militarized.

At the link of the article, someone comments, "The headline is misleading. [Graham] didn't aid the FBI. He tried to ensure that no more ranchers were killed. That's why they wanted him present when they came out." Right on the money.

    • Man Pulls Gun Outside Oregon School, Police Shoot Him Dead

By Neetu Chandak - Police killed a man who drew a gun while being escorted off the premises of an Oregon middle school Friday. The man was forced out of Cascade Middle School in Eugene, Oregon over a custody dispute, The Associated Press reported Friday. The school was put on lockdown for close to four hours. The shooting occurred outside of the school at 10:27 a.m., according to a Eugene Police Department Facebook post Friday. “As officers were escorting the male from the school, he produced a firearm and a struggle ensued,” the police department wrote. “During the struggle the subject was shot by police and is now deceased.” No students were hurt, The AP reported. Police led small groups of students to a nearby church to meet up with parents in the afternoon. The middle school set up a “care room” with counselors to support students throughout the day. “We will resume school at the regular time on Monday and will have the Care Room set up for any students who need that support,” the school’s website said. “We will communicate about any specific plans or changes to the typical school day on Sunday evening.” Eugene Police Department and Cascade Middle School did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
