  1. This is like the teachings of "The Secret", I believe they come from the occult. What bothers me is that some teachings of the occult can be woven into the bible, specifically things like ask, believe and receive. I am not positive, but I believe witchcraft has something to do with performing acts while having a strong conviction that you WILL see the desired results. Unfortunately I see this as similar to having Faith in the Lord answering your prayers. Another thing that confuses me is astrology. Not the two line horoscopes in the paper, but the volumes and volumes of information regarding planets and their movement, placement, and it's meaning on earth. I am a person who searches for information and looks for patterns. I have seen that there are patterns and truths in astrology, and it bothers me because I know it is against the Bible. But I have to believe this is God's plan and design, not satan's, so again I am confused.

    Tattoos

What are your thoughts on tattoos? I have noticed in recent years there is a growing trend to tattoo entire arms, legs, neck, etc. It's different than the one or two hidden tattoos of the past. Nowadays it seems to be very blatant and something to be showed off. Is there a Christian view on this, or something the bible would teach?
  3. I'm really not sure where to post this, but I'd like to discuss the doctrine of predestination. If I understand correctly, it is the belief (backed by some scripture) that God chooses who is saved or not. Do you believe this to be true? If so, how does this play out in regards to praying for other people and their salvation? Do your prayers have any effect, or is their fate already decided by God?
  4. Well I hate to say it, but who you look at and think is a Christian may not yet be a true Christian at all. People are born into religions and grow up in them, follow them because of the tradition of their families, or because of their social circles, or because they think it is the right thing to do (but just aren't sure why). So who you may be looking at and thinking is a big old hypocritical Christian, might only be acting Christian by appearance, but is not in heart and spirit. But if you are observant you will see a true Christian become transformed. They might start out not obeying the laws, but you will see them slowly be transformed. It is really beautiful to witness.
  5. I love that the scripture says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding". It speaks to our modern day and our need to understand everything scientifically. It does take great faith and I am always in awe of those who have always had the faith without needing to understand. It really requires letting go of all the modern coping mechanisms we have been taught through society, and just letting God. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord.
