John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Who does everything and who has everything done to them?

[Eph 2:4-7 NASB] 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

  • After losing all ten of his children in the collapse of his son's house, Job says, "The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD" Job 1:21.

William's favorite verse ...

[John 6:44 NASB] 44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.

We cannot choose God, God must choose us ... "NO ONE CAN" ...

Why is I choose & GOD knew wrong ?

For the record, "wrong" is too strong of a word in my opinion.  There are scripture verses which can be interpreted to say something along those lines and a few that require some real work to attempt to explain why they do not mean what they appear to say.  However, I found MANY verses that claim that salvation is of God and not man (like Ephesians 2 describes) and many verses that clearly describe our natural inability or unwillingness to choose God without a God-given change of heart first.  Since I will discard no scripture, it is far more likely that a few verses need to be explained than many verses need to be denied.  So I favor "God chooses us" over "we choose God".

"Jesus is not really God" would be an example of WRONG!

So ,I think I choose and to me that's true ; and that GOD always knew I would is fine,HE loves me so I don't see the issue.I think I have free will and it amuses HIM to let me ? & yes; GOD found me; HE wasn't lost & I found HIM .I laugh when Christians tell me how they finally found GOD. Like HE's an easter egg or something ! This is very confusing ...

If by free will you mean an autonomous or libertarian will then that's the lie of Satan: Gen 3:5, when Satan, disguised as a serpent, said to Eve, “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” Here are the double lies being offered to Eve; first, that she would be like gods, and thus independent, able to rule over herself apart from God, and secondly, there is not one God, but many gods; each is sovereign over himself or herself.

Here's a great article on this subject attached as a .pdf:

I don't know atunonimous  (whatever) or what libertarian means or why they're bad. Nor do I get what picking out my t-shirt color has to do with Eve. To my uncultuered mind I get to decide how to act, to serve God or not,and that's my free will to do so.I want to rule myself with Gods blessing which is what I thought its all about.I choose to do good rather than be some robot drone pinball bouncing off predestined bumpers. I thought the whole thing about repenting/baptism/changing yer ways was my free choice .That GOD knew I would sooner or later don't change the fact that it was me picked up that bible. I sure didn't know. I just don't get what you're trying to point out ??? Can you dumb the explanation down for me ??

William,   Sorry to upset you all. Tried accessing that PDF 3 times and failed. Not real good at computers. Only got refered back to previous pages and gave up.I'm not trying to be dense, I really don't get the issue. I leave with an apology for wasting your time. I'm as Christian as I know how to be. At least that puts me way ahead of the Jihadis and Jehovah Witless ! I still think Jesus will never reject me ;I read that ; it must be so... PAX !

Not upsetting me. The issue really comes down to parroting the doctrine of Satan or not. Lots of people do not see the principals conveyed and the implications as well as the consequences of that particular doctrine.

As far as accessing the pdf you'll need open it after it downloads into your designated folder (usually your download folder). Sounds like you probably downloaded it multiple times and there are more than one copy in your designated location where the file was downloaded. Then you'll need to open it with a pdf reader.
