John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

China Shutting Down Churches, Seizing Bibles in ‘Ambitious New Effort’ to Eradicate Religion

I just love how it seems that most people no matter what country they're from, never seem to learn a thing from history--case in point, China once again cracking down on the heads of all Christians within their country--don't they realize that their persecution will only lead to more and more people turning to Christ?!  And, how many countless times down through the las t 2,000 years has that taken place, yet no one--no non-Christian--ever seems to take notice!  Yet--why am I pointing this out, since as long as they continue doing what history itself has shown to be futile, the ranks of those who are saved by faith in, and through, Jesus Christ will simply grow larger the longer they persist in persecuting them?!  It's because it tears me apart--on the one hand I never want to see a fellow believer in Christ tortured for his/her belief in Him--yet, on the other, if persecution helps so many more people come to faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, why warn the 'opposition'?! Well, it's because of the first thing that tears me apart--the persecution of the Lord's people by unbelievers!!

It's kind of like what God said to us concerning the Great and Terrible "Day of the LORD"--that we were NEVER to pray for it to come, since it will be filled with the worst possible, nightmarish punishments that God will level against those who literally hate Him, and that there is no light during that time, only darkness--so, we are to pray for fellow believers, for the unsaved, for peace in Jerusalem, etc.--but NEVER for that terrible Day to come--even though we long for the Lord Jesus' return, we are to simply follow the example given to us by the apostle John in the last book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ:

"Amen.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus." [Revelation 22:20]

John also said this:

"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.  Amen." [Revelation 22:21 KJV]
