John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

The California Fires

Family is about 20 miles from one (lakeport) These kids (kids? they are in their 50s)  lost their home 3 years ago, any fire is too close. The one in Napa Valley last year that is where they work. The Carr fire (Redding )is a safe distance from our home, about 40 miles.

A couple of the ranchers we know are volinteering at the Carr fire with their heavy equipment .  To do so is not safe.

Our home town has a light dusting of ash, reddish sunshine and smokey air . Not posted as a complaint only for the info.  Can not gripe about smoke when other lives are so effected .

2Ch 7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
