John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Back from the Family Reunion.. Prayers Requested

Hey, brothers and sisters!

I just got back from a two- day family reunion in Huntsville, TN. This annual reunion is held by members of the McDonald family, more specifically, the children of Everett McDonald, my mother's father's elder brother. I ask for your prayers on their behalf because a couple of family members are going through a lot of medical and financial hardship, while others seem to be cursed with an unrepentant cruelty to other members of their own families.

From what I saw this weekend, this family is sorely sundered among each other and the hatreds were emphasized a lot more than the familial love that had previously drawn my parents and I down to Tennessee. This might well be the last time we try to attend a reunion. People kept mistaking my mother for her elder sister and kept asking her questions she couldn't answer. My second cousins Clayton and Howard McDonald are suffering from cancer and it looks like this particular clan is existing on a very thin thread. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless you.

Praying for them. I sense there might be a generational thing happening and fasting is needed for it.

Psalm 51 with arms outstretched prayed for those whose hearts are cold and blind. If  we pray with confidence, this nasty spiritual thing will be lifted.

The spiritual things are far worse than the other things.

I am sorry to hear about your family reunion...I see so very much of that.  I will pray for peace and the Love of God will intervene and somehow soften their hearts.  ♥

ConfessionalLutheran; I wish your name was shorter. Family reunion's for my wife and her family which has reached over 100 has been fairly nice. However there has been those for the majority now attending the difficulty as where to stay. The nearest hotel / motel a good distance away, The family resentment has grown greatly after the last of the original 13 children died some time ago. My wife has lost interest and no longer wants to go.  All of the 13 children children went to church , but as adults there were only a few that showed any signs of having a true relationship with Jesus Christ.

Much like the World about us life has become "eat, drink, party, for tomorrow we might die" very sad and heartbreaking.  Most likely all our families need prayer as Christ means nothing but Christmas trees and presents and Easter candy.  Prayer and being an example and being ready to share the Good News is our best effort.
