John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

What Is The Lord Saying To You Today?

Recommended Posts

Have you been asked this question, "What is the Lord saying to you today?"

It's such a good question. It stokes the fires of fellowship amongst believers. It leads to interesting discussions and valuable conclusions. It opens up the word of God and leads to the fulfillment of the Lord's promise that "where two or more are gathered together in my name there I am in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:20)

A friend phones for a chat, or better still drops in and we have a cup of tea and a biscuit, and we share what the Lord is saying to us, it's living water flowing out our inner being. (John 7:38) There is enthusiasm in abundance when everyone available to assemble gathers and shares what the Lord is saying as we  "consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works". (Hebrews 10:24)

Provoke in this context means incitement, in the Greek it is paroxusmos from which the English word paroxysm derives.

It is good to incite one another to works of faith with the Scriptures and words that the Holy Spirit gives us.

This is what the Lord is saying to me today. Blessings.

I was in Rome earlier this week. Suddenly, in the Catacombs of San Sebastiano, while listening the story of the martyr (maybe a legend, I don't know) I had a feeling that God spoke to me about following Jesus whatever the costs.

We hadn't even planned to visit the Catacombs, because we had heard that there isn't so much to see. We had bought tickets to the Hop-on-Hop-off bus for two days, but we thought that we had excluded the route to the Catacombs, because it was a little bit more expensive, and we were in Rome just for a couple of days. But then we found out that our tickets do include the Catacombs and we had enough time to visit them. Happy we did.

Hi Hanna,

Just curious, were you allowed to take pictures?

No. Not inside the Catacombs.

Thanks for posting this, hanna. Praise and glory to God for words of encouragement like this which serve to build us up in our faith.

Have you been asked this question, "What is the Lord saying to you today?"

.

How does the Lord say/speak to you today.?

.

John1:1 & 14 = 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

.

John6:63 = 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

.

Luke16:31 = 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’

.

John20:28-29 = 28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
