John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Help a pregnant woman find comfort in bible verses!!

MommaBear

Hello! I am a 35 yr old lady with a wonderful 5yr old boy whom I adopted at 6 mos. I am now pregnant and we are so excited to be adding to our family! My problem is that with all these hormones I have become very moody and kinda mean, even though Im trying so hard not to, and when I do get negative with my Husband or son or friends,  I end up feeling so guilty. And this is also extremely hard for me because normally I am a super sweet and optimistic person, so I see everyone looking at me in such surprise and Im even shocked myself! I do understand it's a part of the pregnancy hormones but when I went to pull my bible out for some help, I realized I didnt know where to even begin looking for verses to help me out. I would much appreciate some help and any advice! Thanks to all in advance!

Hi MommaBear,

Welcome to Christforums!

My advice is to rely on the support of your loved ones at this time. Inform them about your emotional condition, ask them to pray for you and for their patience, but of course you should try to refrain from abusing them. And though your hormones are out of balance at this time, Scripture does not excuse a man or blame his testosterone which may escalate the male temperament.

If you're having trouble finding relevant verses to do with these outburst perhaps this can be of help: https://www.openbible.info/topics/emotions

Of course, applying them to you is characteristic of a wise woman.

God bless,

William

I think 1 Peter 3:4 is a good passage.

Psa 30:10  Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.
Psa 30:11  Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
Psa 30:12  To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

Psa_30:5  For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

The morning will come, the screaming hormones often do not last for the whole time. I pray short term for you. Those who love you will understand, maybe not at the time but like the pangs of childbirth are forgotten so will this be.

"Sorry guys i am not myself. I will try more tomorrow". Remember to forgive your self as you would forgive others.

Have you talked to your Dr. about your moodiness?  Your family / friends Should be understanding about pregnancy hormones.   Maybe not being so hard on yourself.  Lots of women are much more emotional during pregnancy.  Maybe your OB Dr. knows of counseling during pregnancy.   Each pregnancy can affect the woman differently because there's another human being forming / growing inside you.  I've had 4 babies.

I have found that listening to the scripture keeps me in contact with God.

There is an app, Bible is, developed by Faith comes by hearing, it is free and can be listened to online, or downloaded for offline use. It replaces the tv or radio and serves to consistently keep me aware of God’s love and His desire to be a part of my life. I learn, I laugh, I am served up a larger picture of my life and that of humanity as a whole. It also makes it difficult to behave foolishly when He is speaking. It benefits me and am confident it will any who listens. It is simply audio scripture, without interpretation or opinion. I prefer the non-drama version. Give it a shot, you’ll be pleasantly encouraged.

In Christ

May God bless you as a mother and may you bless your children in your life.
