John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

I went to Mt St Helens

I went to Mt St Helens last week with my wife. I was amazed to see what was once considered a devastating incident now crawling with new life. Life, matter of fact is more plentiful now than before the eruption. Also, it amazed me that the canyons could be carved so quickly by mud and water as heat from the volcanic eruption melted the snow cap. It is said that even the Grand Canyon could of been carved in only a short amount of time from mud and water when the Great Worldwide flood receded.

Here's some pictures of my visit:

Here's Mt St Helens as a storm front moves in. You can see multiple canyons around the volcano:

And here's how green St Helens is today. This canyon was carved by mud and water and a blast moving around 300 mph:

I went to Yellowstone in 1993 just 5 years after the huge fires of 1988.  Already the burned areas were covered with trees 3-5 feet tall and the open spaces were alive with wild flowers.

That was a very interesting article about Mt. St. Helens.  As for how fast things in nature can transform from one thing into another, and do so rather quickly, it reminded me of something I had been literally astonished to find out when I was about 10 years old--the previous Fall season a ton of leaves had been piled into the far part of the back yard--some time during the next summer my mother and I were out in that part of the yard doing some clean up--at one point, as I was raking, it suddenly dawned on me that all of the leaves piled out there just the year before were all gone--when I mentioned that to mom, she told me that, no, actually they were really still there, and that the dirt I was raking was made out of them--I think my eyes nearly popped out of my head as I thought about that--the leaves had actually 'transformed' into all that fresh, new soil, and I was totally astonished

Also, I was amazed that something else to literally come out of that volcanic explosion was the manmade gemstone they call 'Helenite' or 'Emerald Obsidianite' which was discovered when heat from acetylene torches being used on twisted metal debris, during which the volcanic ash began to melt, forming beautifully colored glass in shades of blue, red and emerald green.  It needs to be processed before it becomes a gemstone  that can be faceted, but still, if yhe mountain had not exploded the Helenite would not have been created--but, it seems to show how easily gemstones might have been created to begin with, thanks to the way God has structured things here on earth.👍😊
