John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Romans 10:1-13
(1)  Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
(2)  For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
(3)  For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
(4)  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes.
(5)  For Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which does those things shall live by them.
(6)  But the righteousness which is of faith speaks on this wise, Say not in your heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
(7)  Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
(8)  But what says it? The word is nigh you, even in your mouth, and in your heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
(9)  That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shalt be saved.
(10)  For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
(11)  For the scripture says, Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.
(12)  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
(13)  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Being religious is not the same as being righteous.

It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we are righteous.

A person can be very religious in reading the Bible daily, praying formal prayers at set times, attending religious meetings, and doing charitable works, but if they are trusting in all these for salvation and approval from God they are in bondage.

Hab 2:1-4
(1)  I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
(2)  And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
(3)  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
(4)  Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

I've never heard of an Evangelical Reformed before. Religion does not enter the picture when referring to Reformed people. The Reformed doctrines are basically historical and built upon  strict biblical principals as laid out in the Word of God. As for one being highly religious ,that depends upon their standing with Christ . If one is genuinely born again they have a full commitment to obey the entire Word of God and act according to its instructions . It is a life given to reading, then asking yourself the question. " Am I completely given to obeying what I just read ?" Then putting it in practice and living what you have just learned .  M
