John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Thankful for birds

I live in Michigan and I'm so thankful to God that my two favorite birds are back at my feeder. The Rose breasted grosbeaks and the Baltimore Orioles. I just love seeing those birds. Any other bird watchers out there?

Yes, I can't keep track of all the different names of the birds though. We have all sorts of finches that come by, along with morning doves and cardinals, recently we've been having cow birds, they're beautiful birds, but they take over the nest of other birds.

And we have humming brids every year.

One of the most interesting birds we had was this one bird that would set on the window sill a peak at the window for food. It's wings and tail were black and it's belly was white with just a small spot of red on it's chest.

i don't bird watch per se but i do love birds - little birds like hummingbirds and big birds like eagles.

i like their singing and chirping and i like watching them fly

i've seen birds dance to music - that is really cute - they got moves

when i was a kid we had a kid's cd of whale songs sped up and they sounded just like birds twittering and chirping

It must've been migrating when I seen it, it was only around for about two weeks. If I remember right it was spring, so it was probably headed back up North.

Hi.  I am a new member in Australia and love the birds coming to our garden.  We have regular visits from colourful Australian parrots including the King Parrot, Galahs, Rosellas and - higher in the trees - Sulphur Crested Cockatoos (very noisy screeching).  We also have tiny finches that come each year, Willy Wagtails with their distinctive movement (hence the name), and Splendid Wrens. I adore little birds.

When we first came to view this house there was a hummingbird in the garden that entranced me.  I have a movement disorder that could end up disabling my speech, but I know that I could still hum and therefore communicate musically no matter what my tongue is doing at the time.  I am a singer, so hummingbirds are very meaningful.  God gave me that little bird then, and ten years later it still feels special.  What a beautiful gift from a loving Father.
