John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

This is time for those able to work to get off the couch watching TV and go to work! (Oh my I said that bad four letter word...WORK)

For some totally disabled persons this might be a hardship.

I am fed up with drug addiction being a disability. The so called doctors of the physic world handing out feel good pills to keep their jobs. They give any bad behaviour an alphabet label, then proceed to dispense the candy. Both the doctors and addicts are leeches..

My view is from personal experience.

The problem I have experienced with the welfare system, at least as far as food stamps are concerned, is that they scale back the benefits faster than you can ramp up your income to replace what you were getting from the state.  My family was on welfare for a number of years and the only reason we were able to successfully get off was I landed a much better job that paid more than what I need to offset what I was no longer getting via food stamps and wic.

There is actually a general lack of common sense applied to this whole issue.  I know of entire families that choose not to work and play the system to get the Government and charities to support them.  I also know of a 'Medical Assistant' with a totally disabled son (Neuro-muscular disorder, vent, tube feeding, etc.) who is required to work because she is "able bodied" and the Government pays two shifts of nurses (RNs) to take care of her son while she works rather than permitting her to stay home and care for him herself.  It does not take a genius to quickly realize that two shifs of RN nurses cost more than one Medical Assistant can earn in one shift, so it would be a better use of my tax dollars to pay the mother to stay home.

Setting aside the financial aspect, who will better care for a helpless child, a random agency nurse with a government contract, or that child's mother?
