John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

faith comes through hearing, not from hearing.

Romans 10:17 Then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

Some will say this verse means that hearing the word creates faith, but God gives us faith, the word is what we to have faith in. In other words faith is made active when the word is abmissistered.

We can see clearly that when we read this verse in of the rest of Scripture that it's not that simply reading and hearing the word makes faith, and of course anyone who has ever read or heard would have Faith.

Romans 12: 3

For I say, through the Grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt every man the measure of faith.

Ephesians 2:8

For by Grace you ye saved though faith; and not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.

Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith: who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of God.

Its clear, that because of the totally depraved spiritual state of man, and from Scripture, that faith is a gift from God, activated by the Word and that we have nothing but to live in thankfullnes and love toward our Saviour.

Stay strong in Christ and be blessed.

When the Lord calls the lost to himself, the Holy Spirit reproves that lost person of their sin.  If he has a sorrow that is after the world, he rejects that call and gets death.  If he responds with a godly sorrow, and belief in the word of the Lord, and confesses with his mouth; Jesus puts a mustard seed of faith into his soul.  From then on, the Holy Spirit illuminates any scripture studied, writing the Lord's commandments and laws onto the heart and mind of the believer, increasing their faith that much more.  Then, in due time, the Lord, who desires for us to grow, will try our faith to produce perseverance, which makes the Lord, often times, to be the God of the last minute.  Faith is also exercised by use and like our muscles is made stronger with use, as we strive to believe our prayer requests.  That's why the parable of the widow with the unjust magistrate is so applicable, because she doesn't stop going to the magistrate until after she received help.  "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteousness man availeth much."  Fervent because we really want it and effectual because we refuse to take no for an answer.  Finally, a clear conscience empowers full power faith.  This can be seen in 1 Jn 3:21,22: "Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then we have confidence toward God.  And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight."

Maranatha!
