John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

[h=1]this is not scriptural ? where does the idea He asked this come from...? Lord specifically asked that it be recited as a novena.[/h]

The novena is a prayer method where you prayer for different people or intentions for each day over nine days generally. It's a routine of prayer you can make that can be any amount of days, 24 or 50 even, it's either a planned out routine or you can plan your own.

The Divine Mercy devotion came from a nun call Sister Faustina who had a deep personal relationship with Jesus. Jesus appeared to her and explained His greatest attribute His Mercy. Sister Faustina kept a diary of her walk with Jesus and what He instructed her, I'm sure Protestants have have had the same personal relationships with Jesus.

He asked her pray the prayers of Divine Mercy and spread the devotion to His Mercy.

I remember a similar Protestant devotional " By His stripes we are healed " a few years ago, not sure who came up with it though.

This is out side of Scripture... When protestants start saying things like the line below i dont trust them either .

The Chaplet can be said anytime, but the Lord specifically asked that it be recited as a novena. He promised, "By this Novena (of Chaplets), I will grant every possible grace to souls."

I am reminded of the Scripture

Mat_6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Don't you believe Jesus suffering benefited us?

This is reference to the whip marks that tore open Jesus skin during the bitter passion.

There are many prayers that aren't in scripture, people pray from the heart in their own words all the time. It may not be a prayer from scripture, but it is a prayer from the heart.

Jesus prayed repetitively. " And having left them again, having gone away, He prayed for the third time, saying the same words " Matt 26:44

The original Greek says battalog or babble and the meaning has nothing to do with repetition in that verse.

Jesus asked Sister Faustina to make this devotion, would you ignore Jesus if He appeared to you and told you to do something. Sister Faustina had a deep personal relationship with Jesus, even spoke with Him face to face, I don't think Protestants who have experienced Jesus in past times could ignore Him either.

That's part of our personal walk with Jesus, we have to obey Him.

We are told to test every spirit to see if it's from God, anyone can claim they saw Jesus, but that doesn't make the message true, it must stand up to scripture and declare Christ as the Son of God.

She did declare Jesus as the Son of God, she was told to write everything she experienced with Jesus down in a diary. The first reaction of the clergy was for her to have a full psychological assessment which she passed 100%.

If it was demonic, why would the devil be asking people to pray " Jesus I trust in you " and for people to appeal to Jesus as merciful Saviour.

The other thing is the amazing testimonies of people who have prayed this devotion to Jesus mercy.

This is how Jesus appeared to her, but she said no picture could do Him justice.

Jesus explained that this devotion to his mercy was for these later times when great dangers and evils were in

the world.

Satan often mazsquerades as an angel of light. When he is doing this, he will probably include a lot of truth in what he says but he will mix in some error that will negate the value of the truth.
