John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Why doesn't the Pope put a stop to this in the Philippines?

The link below has some bloody images of what some Roman Catholics from the Philippines do to themselves in "celebration" of Christ's death.

My question is why doesn't the Pope tell these deluded people such practices aren't necessary. By remaining silent it comes across as the Roman Catholic church encourages what is taking place.

Again, a warning because some of the pictures are bloody.

I sure I've seen this practice before, at least the part where they dress in white, can't remember what is called.

The whole thing is nonsense, God, who is perfect, who created the heavens and earth, who is the authority and Lord of all things came in the flesh and took our punishment, it's absolute foolishness to even think they can attone for thier their sins by beating themselves up.

Could it be that the Pope is okay with it? Maybe it's a form of penance? Some people feel it's an act of 'something' to identify more closely with Christ's sufferings. Brings a person closer To Him?

Why are people drawn to horror movies on TV / theaters / video games.

Could it be that the Pope is okay with it?

Near the beginning, the article states that this practice is condemned by the Church. A lot of Catholics ignore what the Pope says when it conflicts with what they want to do.

God allowed His Son to shed his blood so we can be forgiven. Satan often requires that his followers shed their blood in an attempt to be forgiven. As I looked at those pictures I thought about the contest between Elijah and the prophets of Baal. The prophets cut themselves in an attempt to get Baal to answer their prayers.

The Pope is a false teacher. The Pope recently said he had more power over salvation than Jesus Christ. The Pope is no more holier than you or me. The Pope will stand before Jesus when he dies and must answer for his sins and why he so mislead millions of people telling he was the head of His church.

You've got a good point.

He certainly Is and he certainly Will.
