John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Where is the "How To" section?

I have made thousands of posts on other forums, but I am having a hard time navigating this site.

Specifically, I quoted someone and commented, and then someone commented on my comment, not in the tread, but within my comment creating a new thread within the larger thread. How did they do that? And what do I do now? I tried quoting their comment, but ended up quoting my own previous comment and don't seem to have the ability to quote them or reply. But they asked a question...and now I can't even answer.

Is this stuff explained somewhere - 'cause if it's here somewhere, I can't find it when I need it.

There are two kinds of responses, post replies (directed at OP) and comments (directed at post replies). This is a post reply which you can quote. It has to do with the Original Post.

This is a "comment" which has to do with post reply number 2. Under post number 2 and onward you'll see an option to "comment". It is used to comment on another poster, but not the OP. This is meant to keep from derailing the threads. Using this feature is how a whole other conversation began in a thread. To respond to this, use the "comment" button above to comment #2.1.

This is a Post reply input box. Posting content in it will create another post whose content is directed to the OP.

And this is the "Comment" button, which will open a box beneath it to comment on a post reply. Use it to prevent derailing the entire thread.

But what you have on your screen, I don't have on my screen. I don't have a comment option:

...And now I am "not authorized to put up a screen shot."

You should be able to now see the "comment" option and upload pictures etc. Generally these options aren't available until after making 10 posts, but I advanced your account to full membership now.

God bless,

William

Many thanks - that was confusing and frustrating!

No problem and thanks for reporting the issue. I was actually unawares that the permission was set so that newly registered members could not use the comments. I changed the permission to allow them now to use it.

I am very confused on why there was no “Post Reply” button until now.

OK, let me try this and see if I can post from here.

You registered your account but did not activate the account through the email sent to you. I just now activated it manually after reading your letter sent in through the contact us page.

God bless,

William

Hi Kathy,

We're currently in transition now as @Becky is our new administrator. She is acclimating to the environment. Her position is actually to do with personnel whereas my position deals with software/hardware the tech side of the site.

As for which forums you ought visit first I think the first should be these:

https://www.christforums.org/article...and-conditions

https://www.christforums.org/article...-announcements

https://www.christforums.org/articles/3424-our-belief

And don't forget after reading those to introduce yourself in the Welcome Mat.

From there you can ease yourself into general conversations with others in forums such as news, off topic discussion, or the lounge. I always recommend that we take the time to introduce ourselves and get to know the people we are about to dive into serious study with.

God bless,

William
