John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Contemplative prayer.

Is everyone we pray for saved? It's by God's will that we are saved by his grace, his grace doesn't depend on us.

Look at the model of prayer Christ gave us, "Thy will be done" to pray that someone would be saved is to hope that it's in God's will.

2Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

If it's Gods Will that all should repent and be saved, why does Paul feel the need to pray that people be saved? If it's all a done deal. I can't make sense of what you are saying.

Christ made the grace available by his work on the Cross, but we must ask for it.

"Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved." Rom10:1

Why is he praying to God for their salvation, what does he expect God to do about it, send grace or something perhaps? No?

Salvation Has been made available to all, yes, it Is a gift of God that must be accepted by the individual. It's like a Christmas gift -- no one Asks for a gift, it's Given under the tree or handed to us -- but we need to extend our hand to accept the gift --Then it becomes Ours. And we say thank you to the giver of the gift.

We believe in our heart and confess with our mouth, the Lord Jesus. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.

As believers we Are to be concerned for the salvation of others / family / friends, etc.

In that passage, he's praying for Israelites coming to Christ. Paul was a Jew so his first concern would be for the Israelites / Jews. The Jews are God's chosen people. Salvation was also extended to the Greeks / the rest of the world. The tribe of Judah are the original Jews. And the tribe of Judah was one of the 12 tribes of Israel.

He was praying that he or someone would be used of God to share Gospel unto salvation with the Israelites.

Early missions is in Acts. Paul's three missionary trips with Barnabas and I'm thinking there was another man. And that has extended to modern-day missions. God chooses men and women to various geographical areas to share salvation with 'those other people' groups'.

I grew up in a church that encouraged foreign missions. Any church I've gone to has a foreign mission outreach. My sister and brother-in-law felt led to go to Brazil and they were active in church planting for 40 years. They raised 4 kids in the process. A hard, but fulfilling life.

Home missions is our next door neighbors, fellow workers, etc. Our life style Should be showing Christ. Our actions / speech. Also, at work, we put in a full -day or shift of work and Then get to know our co-workers as is possible. And - at times - simply working at work and not goofing around - and our language Is our 'witness'.

Who is the "us" in "usward? The elect.

In context the verse is about Christ return, some were saying that the promise of Christ return was taking too long to be true 2 Peter 3:3-4. Then the reason for what seemed like a delay in verse 9, all the elect haven't came to repentance yet.

Your making more out of Paul's prayer than there is, he's not asking God to save them, but hoping that they are saved.

We must ask for grace for ourselves or for other people? We can't ask for it ourselves because like Scripture tells us we're dead in sin, no man can come to The Son unless The Father draws him, we rely on God's mongerisitc work to bring us to repentance. If you mean we must ask for grace for other people, well, God is graceful weither we ask it or not.

Well.  I never really expected to post here, but sometimes things change.  I just learned that I have colon cancer.  We don't how advanced it may be, but it isn't looking good. God clearly has a new assignment for us and we want to live it well.  I ask for prayer that my wife and I use this opportunity well to glorify God, strengthen Believers and spread the Gospel. Hopefully, we will be fine and back to work soon.   Meanwhile....we may be looking for a place to stay near Virginia Maso

Please direct your support questions to other staff such as Becky and Origen.    I ask for your prayers not only in safely migrating from Ca to Id but also in healing and mentally detoxin

    • Prayer request for my mother

Please pray for my mother's health. She has spotting in her stomach which may or may be nothing more than scarring. The spots which have been seen through imaging have been monitored and are growing enough that the doctors want to go in and directly observe. The scarring are a high risk of cancer. Her surgery is scheduled for the end of March.   God bless, William
