John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

SGS offers a "fenced" community: both for private single members and also a public Protestant forums open to Bible-believing Christians such as Presbyterians, Lutherans, Reformed, Baptists, Church of Christ members, Pentecostals, Anglicans. Methodists, Charismatics, or any other conservative, Nicene-derived Christian Church.

Hello, I just thought i would pop in and see if there are interesting discussions I can join in around here.

As my avatar suggests I'm a reformed baptist, from England. I believe the 1689 BCoF is the best and most accurate summary of biblical doctrine. I've been around a few Christian forums - sometimes the experience has been good, sometimes it has been worse then bad - I'm here to try and make this a good one :D

no - never heard of it

I was on the baptist board, puritan board, worthy forums and Christian forums. Years ago I moderated at Grace Forums and also on the Calvinist cafe (and maybe one or two others that i can't remember)

Have you gone by the moniker Contra Mundum elsewhere?

I'll just put it out there that I've made the rounds to many an Internet Christian watering hole.

No, not me. I pretty much limit myself to this board.

Nice to see another Presbyterian.

God bless,

William

PCA, but my heart is OPC. I sat under Gordon Clark, who had a bit of a journey through both.

I was curious. I belong to the OPC but it's always nice to meet someone from our sister church.

I have been a reformed Christian now for about 4 years. Member of the OPC in San Jose California for three.

Love your avatar by the way.

God bless,

William
