John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

So why is this in a Christian forum? Hadn't we better leave the business of the Pentagon to the military? I am thinking so. :RpS_thumbdn:

When Centurions or military personnel approached Jesus what did He say? Did he :RpS_thumbdn: Are you suggesting that military issues are a problem outside of God's providence?

The military sub-forum is in the off discussion category section. It is here because some members served, like to stay informed, and enjoy praying for brethren in arms.

And to note, if I can find a site with an updated day to day "Killed in Action" news feeder I plan to publish it. I think too many of us take our freedoms for granted.

God bless,

William

No William, my down arrow is suggesting their posting was in a sensitive area. Was the posting meant for us to take a side? We should refrain from that. Like the article said, the Arab world was carefully watching this case. We don't have enough particulars of the case to form an opinion.

Every aspect of government, including the business of the Pentagon, is the business of the Church. We would not be enjoying the many freedoms we have in the western nations if the Church had refrained from involvement in military matters. Oh the fiery sermons related to the War that were preached by Church leaders during the period leading up to and during the American revolution! These matters are always matters to be prayed over.

Matters of the church are matters of the manner in which we as Christians see our part in this world and how we can make it as plain as possible that there is a way to make it a better place, while we are here, while we wait for it's end.

What we should look out for is the use the military has for us, since in so many of it's endeavors it has called upon the name of God to support their causes after their causes got the better of them. Maybe they would not be in the place where they find themselves if they had confided in God before they confided in their prestige.
