John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

If Pride goes before the fall then what are we to be proud of?

I have seen many instances of what many Christian's think is our rights and quite possibly our possessions, when it comes to things of this world that to other people that we are Christian

Take for instance the writting "In God we trust." I have seen well meaning Christians act so proudly that we have that on the Dollar and they become unglued at the thought of it being taken off. What does having this passage on our currency matter to God? Is it to show him our aligence to him, even though he sees injto our hearts and knew what people we would become, even before birth? Is it for him or is it for other people to see as if our being Christian and American are something to behold.

Is this pride in our currency that we have and if so, could not be manipulated by the anger we have at the thought of it being removed?

Could this not also be said about other material things, even the country, itself?

Just_me in all honesty our country no longer Trust God for the most part of our population. I think its a disgrace to believe our country any longer really trust God. Simply put we don't! When our Supreme Court voted to allow the murdering of babies, Trusting in God went out the window. When our country began allowing same sex marriage Trusting in God went in the trash can. When our country allowed openly homosexual's to be in the Military Trusting in God became a slap in Gods face. When our country voted for Mr. Obama for the second time God turned His back on our country.

Does the United States of America Trust in God? the answer is NO! I think its time to remove "In God We trust" off our money, because for the majority of the people do not!

In God we trust has become "In money we trust."

The labor of our own hands. Gal 6:4 But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another. NASV

Other versions use word pride.

I think there are two aspects of pride.

One: Where we puff ourselves up and not give God the glory.

Two: We take pride in doing a good job and give God the glory.

Or, should I find a different word for taking pride in conscientious work, While thanking God for the ability of course?

Just asking

In Christ

I think it is okay to use it that way. The Bible does as well.

Philippians 1:26

so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again. (NASB)

The Greek word for "proud confidence" is kauchēma and the BDAG (3rd Edition) defines it as an "act of taking pride in something or that which constitutes a source of pride, boast" (page 537).

I remember years back there was a bumper sticker that read "The power of pride" with an American flag in the background and I think with a muscle or a fist. When I saw that I immediately would think of Leviticus 26:19.
