John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

ECHR: Iranian Christians Safe if They ‘Practice Faith Discreetly’

Recommended Posts

The European Court of Human Rights today upheld deporting Iranian Christians as it stated they would be safe if they practiced their faith 'discreetly'.

Human Rights advocate Ewelina Ochab, in an article for Forbes Magazine, called it “another blow to the victims of religious persecution” and continued "The only reasonable conclusion is that by ‘practicing faith discreetly’, the Swiss authorities meant not practicing faith at all, as the practice requires some degree of manifestation".

This follows a series of cases where Iranian Christian refugees have been deported not just to Iran but to other countries they have no link to. Farid, age 32, was deported to Kabul in Afghanistan, despite living his entire life in Iran and Norway.
