John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

In Exodus 22:22-24 the penalty for harming or killing an unborn child is more severe than that of harming and killing an adult by accident, let alone murder.

Some may feel that there is a certain point of time in the womb that the baby becomes a person. Some say 3 months, others say 6 months, or when the baby reaches certain growth stages. Various moments of time are given.

Notice that it is from conception that human life (yes, that means a 'person') begins. Manoah's wife was not to drink and eat anything that would defile Samson (the boy) from his conception to the day of his birth, because during this entire time in her womb (as well as afterwards) he was a Nazirite.

I think it is also interesting the wording found in Hosea 9:11.

As for Ephraim, their glory will fly away like a bird—
No birth, no pregnancy and no conception! (NASB)
