John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

The inconsistency of Sean Finnegan concerning the worship of Jesus

Recommended Posts

Sean Finnegan is a Unitarian. Thus he denies the biblical doctrine of the Trinity. I have read some of his articles concerning the worship of the Lord Jesus and as with all Unitarians concerning this issue confusion runs rampant.

1. Worshiping Jesus is allowed.

Sean Finnegan: Worshipping Christ actually gives God glory as the indirect recipient

2. We are to only worship the Father.

Sean Finnegan: If we are the people of God, then we worship the same God as the Jews, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Indeed He is also the God of Jesus who worshiped Him alone. May we be like our master. (See the very last paragraph)

How is it possible to be like our master and worship God alone since the worship of Christ (whom you deny to be God) is also affirmed?

Sean Finnegan on prayer

1. Sean Finnegan agrees that we should not pray to any other besides God.

     3. God is the only being to whom we should offer praise. The Shema can also be translated as “The Lord is our God, The Lord alone,” meaning that no other is our God, and we should not pray to any other.” (www.jewfaq.org/g-d.htm)

2. Sean Finnegan teaches that we can pray to the Lord Jesus.

     a. "You can sing to Jesus."  - 28:38

     b. "Jesus, ya know, you are awesome because you, ya know, were obedient to the point of death on the cross. Right? So that's...You're talking to Jesus right? - 34:58

     c. "Let's sing songs to Jesus." - 52:48
