John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

An Elderly father calls up his son a week before Thanksgiving and tells him, " I don't want to hear anything from you or your sister, but me and your mom have called it quits. after 40 years we are sick and tired of eachother and we are getting a divorce. It's settled so, If you want to call your sister about this do so but leave me and your mother alone". He then hangs up the phone.

The brother is stunned, but he quickly calls up his sister and tells her the news. He says that their parents want to be left alone, but his sister won't have any of it..

As soon as her brother hangs up she calls her father and states, " Dad don't you and mom doing anything. Me and my brother will be there next week and we are getting to the bottom of this" and she hangs up on her father.

The father, with a smile on his face sets the phone down and looks at his wife, who is shaking her head in amazement and tells her. "Both of them will be coming for Thanksgiving and they will be paying their own way,here.."
