John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Brought to you by  You’ve got the fire burning deep within your soul, and you haven’t eaten Mexican food in the past 24 hours: yup, it’s a sure sign you’re called to ministry. The next step is to choose the seminary that’s right for training you up in the way that you should go. Picking […]

If some of these reasons were not so close to the truth it would be funnier

For us God led us to Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.. We had no doubts about where we should go, it was a very difficult move from Phoenix, AZ to Missouri. Just the change in weather was a huge change for us. Having to buy winter clothes and snow boots for four school age children and ourselves was a big hit on the budget, yet alone M&S tires for two vehicles. We found we loved the colder weather, and snow, We loved it so much we eventually retired here in Missouri. No more 115 degree hot weather for us!

I encourage anyone who knows for sure God has called them into Ministry to prayerfully ask the Lord if Seminary is in Gods plan for their lives. One BIG advice I give for all people believing God has called them into Ministry. Starting with College and into seminary...DO NOT TAKE OUT STUDENT LOANS!!!! Being in debt SEVERELY hampers you ability to be in Ministry. Many opportunities for Ministry have very low pay, and if you have Student Loans you may not be able to accept positions of Ministry that God may be calling you to. If the finances are not where can go to college or seminary, where you can get VA benefits, work, get scholarships, or assistance from your church, denomination, or some place else, then prayerfully ask God to show you if you are not not understanding His will.

DEBT will hamper the opportunity to be in ministry! Seldom do seminary students get ministry opportunities that pay sufficient financial earnings to pay for schooling and living expenses. I worked as a school bus driver, before and after classes and a cabinet maker at night, and part time pastor 90 miles away form the seminary. My wife also was attending seminary in a preschool before and after classes. This was only possible because the Lord opened doors for us. This was a schedule we did for three years. As we look back i do not know how we did this without the Lords help. Others like us had the same calling and God provided the way.
