John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

I am in serious pain in my lower back and knife cutting jabbing pain in both legs. I fell two days before Thanks Giving. The pain is getting worse each week. Been to PC doctor, had a MIR and serious problem with the spinal cord being pinched in the center of the disks. Surgery they say is too risky. I am in therapy and it is getting difficult to walk as both legs are going numb, and yet full of pain. I cant sleep, but maybe 4 hours and wake up in # 8 pain. I can hardly walk but 20 feet when pain is sever. Please pray the therapy begins to lessen the pain. Thank you.

Teresa has had 4 back surgeries (like we operate now or you never walk again type of emergencies) so I asked her if she had any advice for you. Her response:

Does ice packs help? Ice packs initially have a bite to the skin then then numbs pain. Miami pain Center made us use it exclusively over heat.

What does the therapist say about all the pain the person is having?

Any back surgery is risky and involves a huge recovery.

What about a second opinion?

Are they able to take anti-inflammatories? Often they do more than pain medication.

God Bless (and we are praying for you),

Arthur

Therapy can work wonders, BTW :)

I have just been through something similar. I had a constant, 6-9 level/24/7 pain/numbness/burning in my left elbow, shoulder, and right thigh for about 2 months (the burning was only in my thigh .. oh, and a couple of my left finger tips went numb). Aspirin and narcotics did NOTHING to relieve any of it, neither did the Cortisone shots my orthopedic surgeon injected me with. It turned out to be a pinched nerve cluster in my 6th vertebrae.

I couldn't get in to see a neurologist in time (the pain had become so great), so for the first time in 60 years, I tried a chiropractor. After just 3 weeks of traction and "adjustments", I am pain and numbness (and burn) free, PTL :)

I don't know if that will work for you too, but it might be something to consider if your PT doesn't do the trick.

Yours and His,

David

Went to water therapy yesterday, I am really struggling today. My wife and I think it might be wise to consult a Neurologist, as it is extremely difficult sleeping, standing, walking or sitting. The therapists was concerned at how little movement I was able to do, I think I feel like a person just learning to walk.

In the midst of all this I am so blessed by Nick in his ministry of Life without Limbs. My how he is so encouraging to listen to his messages. Thank the Lord for him.

Praying for a reduction in your pain level and/or your ability to survive it until the Lord leads you to the right doctor to get the problem fixed. VERY sorry to hear that things are worse for you :(

I saw the Spinal Doctor yesterday and he said Surgery was needed quite soon as it was "serious". I have to get several Doctors to sign off that I am in good enough health to have the surgery.

The plan is to do work on L1-L5 and have two rods inserted to hold my back together. A three hour surgery, five to six day stay in the hospital and three months recovery.

I am scared, they are hopping this will happen in late April if all goes well.

Thank you for your prayers. Yesterday the Pain doctor I go to found out by blood tests two weeks ago I have a genetic disorder which makes my pain even more than normal. He also said the MRI was very poor quality, and I need to have a tube one while put to sleep for very in depth quality. He said he noticed my bones in my hips near the spins are one reason for my sever pain. I went to a small surgery clinic and was given a Epidural pain shot it was very painful, my sugar went to 330, but today the knife poking pain is about 90% gone. I was takes off four vitiam B pills as there are conflicting with some other medicines.

So this is a new twist in my eventual spine surgery. My doctors goal is to have me ready as possible to get good results for spine surgery. Thanks again for your prayer's, God is so good to us.
