John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Combination of Secularism And Islamic Immigration Is Changing The Face Of Europe -- For The Worse

I find these quotes extremely troubling...

Everyone in Italy and the rest of Europe will "soon be Muslim" because of our "stupidity", warned Monsignor Carlo Liberati, Archbishop Emeritus of Pompei. Liberati claimed that, thanks to the huge number of Muslim migrants alongside the increasing secularism of native Europeans, Islam will soon become the main religion of Europe. "All of this moral and religious decadence favours Islam", Archbishop Liberati explained.

Décadence is also the title of a new book by the French philosopher Michel Onfray, in which he suggests that the Judeo-Christian era may have come to an end. He compares the West and Islam: "We have nihilism, they have fervor; we are exhausted, they have a great health; we have the past for us; they have the future for them".

Archbishop Liberati belongs to a growing branch of Catholic leaders who refuse to see the future belonging to Islam in Europe. They speak in open opposition to Pope Francis, who does not seem too impressed by the collapse of Christianity due to falling birth rates, accompanied by religious apathy and its replacement by Islam.

Interesting quote. Michael Onfray is a Marxist; I read his anti-God book back in my atheist period, but I winced at his socio-political skew, being the righty I am. He nails it with the above quote, though. Reminds me of Christopher Hitchens, far left but astute (and honest) enough to see the writing on the wall.

Thanks for the insight on Onfray. What he said caught my attention because I have been wondering why the Liberals don't seem to comprehend the danger of Islam. At this point they seem to think that anyone who is against Christians is on their side. They're in for a devastating surprise if/when things go far enough...

When people on the political left like Marxists, and people on the political right like Trump and others, both agree there is a problem, it seems likely there actually is a problem. Is it only Liberals who say there is not? I would be curious to know whether Liberals feel there is not a problem because they do not think their rights are threatened and that a new culture will never get a foothold (bit late for that), or if they don't think it is a problem because it is natural for one culture to supplant another, and they are accepting this.

It is somewhat interesting that Tony Blair allowed mass imigration into the country and then once his term was up promptly spent most of his time abroad (and changed faith to Catholic).
