John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

By that, I mean a, translation of course. Is there any non-English translation of the Bible that contains a particularly interesting or moving passage?

One I love from the Luther BIble is:

"Und Jesus gingen die Augen über." (John 11:35)

It is rather poetic German meaning "And Jesus' eyes overflowed." The English translation is normally rendered "Jesus wept."

How about you? Thanks for sharing. :)

 I am not fluent in other languages, but I do like how in Korean that God is called 하나님.

하나 = Hana

님 = Nim

 Hana = One

 Nim = Used as a sign of respect (Leader in this case)

 God is our Number #1 Leader.
