John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

House of Reps. Passes Resolution Declaring ISIS Committing Genocide against Christians

You and I – and probably even most American liberals – understand that Christians in the Middle East have targets painted on their backs.

 

Up until now, no one has really confirmed that what is going on is hardcore genocide.

 

The House of Representatives just weighed in…

The House voted Monday to pass a resolution that declared the Islamic State to be committing genocide against Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East.

 

“What is happening in Iraq and Syria is a deliberate, systematic targeting of religious and ethnic minorities,” Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) said in a statement. “Today, the House unanimously voted to call ISIS’s atrocities what they are: a genocide. We also will continue to offer our prayers for the persecuted.”

 

The resolution passed 383-0.

 

That’s a major statement.

 

However, condemning the violence is hardly the same as doing something about it and ending the nonsense once and for all.

 

Why though, are there only 383 votes accounted for? Aren’t there 435 seats in the House? Who skipped out?

 

I wonder if Obama will even mention this in his weekly address.
