John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Fishing

Recommended Posts

I know I will catch it for this one so with no further adieu:

One day there was a Baptist, a Catholic, and a Mormon on a riverbank fishing, soon the baptist runs low on bait so he gets up and walks across the water to get some more and walks across the water back, a while later the Catholic runs low as well so he gets up and walks across the water and does the same, the whole time the Mormon is thinking "ya know I got just as much faith as them I am gunna try that" so he gets up walks halfway across the water and SPLASH, swims back walks halfway back out and SPLASH, at that moment the Catholic looks over at the baptist and says "I don't think our friend has as much faith as we do", and the baptists replied "either that or he don't know where those stumps are".

    • Fishing again

I just got back from a fishing trip in the Northern Territory. I'm constantly amazed by the huge numbers of fish Australia has along its coastlines. Threadfin salmon are the favourite eating fish, and they are easy to catch from the northern beaches. I wish I could have cooked you guys some threadfin on the beach, there's something biblical about the idea.  Hot threadfin fillet sandwiches off the BBQ plate.

    • Fishing knots

One of the best knots I use for non toothy fish is the snell knot because it returns %100 of the breaking strain of the line. It can be used on spade hooks mostly used in Asia, they don't have eyelets but the line is tied to the shank of the hook. Does anyone else use the common or simple snell on their fishing rigs?

One morning a husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.   Although not familiar with the lake, his wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors and reads her book.   Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, “Good morning, Ma’am. What are you doing?”   “Reading a book,” she replies, thinking, Isn’t that obvious?   “You’re in a Restricted Fishing Area,” he informs her.   “I’m sorry
