John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

New Policy - Promotion of Kinism Banned from Christforums

We will be adapting this policy into our rules in the coming days. "Kinism is a relatively new theological movement, held by some Calvinists (though most Calvinists denounce it) that teaches that God in the Bible has ordained a specific means of cultural behavior that is based on same-race families or "kin." It maintains that people are to be involved with, worship with, and marry people of their same kind, that is, their same race. Furthermore, the races were separated at the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:9) when God confounded people's languages and the people groups dispersed". - CARM

The Bible recognizes there are different tribes and peoples on the Earth (Revelation 5:9), all of whom originated from the same parents. "He has made from *one blood* every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings" (Acts 17:26).


However, in Christ the dividing wall is broken down (Ephesians 2:14), and those who believe from among the nations have been united under one King (Ephesians 4:5). Christians around the world are separated by distance and language, but are united in Christ by one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 2:18). Together, they are the "holy nation" of God (1 Peter 2:9).


Despite obvious, continuing differences between believing Jews and Gentiles (language, culture, location) and between believing males and females (physiology, Scripturally-mandated gender roles), there is no inherent division between them, for they are united in Christ by one Spirit (Galatians 3:28). Believing Jews and Gentiles "are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:26), "one body in Christ" (Romans 12:5), and "fellow heirs" of the grace of life (Ephesians 3:6; 1 Peter 3:7). As the historic, universal church has confessed, "we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church" (Nicene Creed).


Under the Old Covenant, Israelites were forbidden from marrying foreign women (Deuteronomy 7:1-3); nevertheless, God's concern was not racial purity, but that foreign wives would tempt the people to serve other gods (Deuteronomy 7:4; Exodus 34:15-16; Nehemiah 13:26). Marriage to foreign wives *was* permitted in the Old Covenant under certain conditions (Deuteronomy 21:10-14), especially if the women professed faith in the God of Israel (examples: Rahab and Ruth, Hebrews 11:31; Ruth 1:16).


Similarly, the only restrictions on marriage in the New Covenant are that it must be between a man and a woman (Mark 10:6-7), and "only in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:39).


Kinism teaches that people are to be distinguished primarily by ethnicity instead of faith in Jesus Christ, and that God prioritizes the purity and separation of races over and against the holiness of His church. This strikes at the heart of Christ's redemptive mission, which was to break down the "wall of separation" between believing Jews and Gentiles, and to make them "one new man" by His Spirit (Ephesians 2:14-15; Galatians 3:28).


It is therefore divisive (aka heretical) to separate Christian believers along ethnic lines (Galatians 2:11-13) and to cite racial purity as an excuse to forbid marriage to two people whom Christ has united by His Spirit (Jeremiah 31:31-33; Ephesians 4:3-7).


This is why the promotion of kinism is banned in this forum -- because it is divisive to the body of Christ and to Christian fellowship (Titus 3:10-11; Ephesians 4:2-3).
