John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Lying

Col 3:9  Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices

Joh 8:44  You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father‘s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Lev 19:11 "’Do not steal. "’Do not lie. "’Do not deceive one another."

Re 14:5  No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

Re 21:8  But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars— their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

And by the way, lying involves not only the intention to deceive. A lie occurs when one says anything which is false regardless of whether one does so intentionally to deceive or not. Thus Christians should be diligent to check out the facts as to what is actually true and false and not gullibly rely upon mindless indoctrinationand end up lying concerning things of which they are ignorant. Then they can be more confident when they claim they are "speaking the truth in love" Eph 4:15a
