John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Hi!

Have has anybody on this forum been watching The History Channel's Jesus his Life? VERY intriguing! The IVY League Biblical Scholars are a wealth of knowledge. Especially Dr. Robert Cargill and Dr. John Dominic Crossan (former priest). Dr. Candida Moss is also a former Professor at Notre Dame 🙂

Hello and welcome to ChristForums.

I never watch shows like that. When the 'world' gets involved with the things of Christ they either deny His Virgin conception and birth, His sinless life, His bodily resurrection and/or the fact that He is God.

I know John Dominic Crossan belonged to (not sure if he still does?) the very infamous Jesus Seminar.

No, and I never would even think of doing such a thing . Usually any media that tries to depict the life and time of Jesus are poor depictions riddled with error and offered to the public as pure entertainment . Actually they are plain laughable . The only movie I approve of is the 1959 movie , Ben Hur . It is supposed to be the Story Of The Christ. It doesn't do anything to His life and times except to present Him as a  low profile character  ,with only a few scenes of Him teaching a crowd of admirers and then eventually  ending the movie with Him being nailed to a cross and then dying . Actually the movie is about Judah Ben Hur and his refusal to join ranks with his boyhood friend the Roman Tribune Marcellas and rule the Jewish people  even in his position  as a devout Jew. His refusal led to a series of hardships imposed upon him by Marcellas  that would end with the famous chariot race that ended the life of Marcellas. And the fame of Judah who won the race by driving a team of Arabian horses owned by an Arab gambler .

Just do a search of its founder Robert Funk and it shouldn't be difficult to see the insanity he espoused. He passed away in 2005. I am not sure if he ever repented of all the spiritual poison that he believed in and spread (only God knows if he did), but his former days of shaking his fist in the face of God are forever over.
