John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Harvest Bible Chapel Announces that Lead Pastor James MacDonald Will Take an 'Indefinite Sabbatical'

Its tragic for any church when court actions are brought by Christians against Christians. Paul wrote that is better to let things go rather than allow the world to judge Christians. Its shameful to read such stories, it grieves me to read this. The article makes me think the pastor was at fault. Big church have huge problems and this gives a bad testimony to the city it serves in, very sad.

    • James 2:10

My church's sermon today was mainly on James 2:10, how if you break one commandment, you are guilty of breaking them all. My pastor explained this, by giving an analogy of hanging by a chain of links. One link breaks, they all break, and you plummet to your death. I get the analogy, but it seems like a harsh warning. What do you think about this passage?

    • 1599 Geneva Bible

I personally love this Bible. I have had mine for about 4 months now, and can't imagine reading without it. The notes are so helpful, and really give great insight to the Word. I love the old English, it really adds a poetic element, making it much easier to memorize.    Your thoughts? Like or Dislike?  Would love to have discussion!    God Bless!

    • Favorite Non-English Bible Verse?

By that, I mean a, translation of course. Is there any non-English translation of the Bible that contains a particularly interesting or moving passage?   One I love from the Luther BIble is: "Und Jesus gingen die Augen über." (John 11:35)   It is rather poetic German meaning "And Jesus' eyes overflowed." The English translation is normally rendered "Jesus wept."   How about you? Thanks for sharing. :)
