John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Prayer for Chinese Missionaries

Please pray for the believers in China who are experiencing persecution. Our church missionaries of the OPC recently returned to America after determining it was not safe or wise to remain in that area of China.

God bless,

William

Since coming to power in 2012, China's leader Xi Jinping has severely cracked down on human rights, religious freedom and freedom of expression. Christians are experiencing some of the worst persecution in...

The company I work for has a manufacturing plant in China and I am told so often of how different the culture there is. I’ll say a prayer for your friend - I pray he stays strong and that the power of God directs his paths. God bless and thanks for sharing.

Yes, and addition I include all Missionaries  in all depraved nations in my regular prayers. We cannot imagine what life is like in these places unless we actually witness it for ourselves. But we can be assured of the fact that if God wants missionaries there He will have them there fully equipped for the work at hand.

We have been praying for Pastor Wang Yi, the senior pastor of Early Rain Covenant Church in China. He and his wife and over 100 members were placed under arrest by Chinese authorities in December. Knowing that this was a likely outcome, prior to his arrest Pastor Yi wrote a document entitled “My Declaration of Faithful Disobedience.” It is a moving testimony to his commitment to Christ and his church. You can read the declaration here:

Separate me from my wife and children, ruin my reputation, destroy my life and my family – the authorities are capable of doing all of these things...

We here are so spoiled. Do we even come close to understanding how blessed we are?

Almighty God,

I cannot help but note the grace from which Paul penned his letters in the writings of this dear Pastor.

I'm teary eyed knowing our brethren are in custody.

From a human perspective an injustice compels a part of me as I reflect upon Isaiah chapter 6. Who shall go for us? As a citizen of an earthly nation which is blessed by God, an echo from Abel whose blood cries out from the ground. And a familiar tone as Cain's words ring on behalf of our nation, which seemingly is indifferent; Am I my brothers keeper?

I only know of one and He sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision as the peoples plot in vain.

A blessing and cursing, but dare not my intent which drives my words be a cursing, for the words proceeds from the same lips that bless when I pray, Come Lord, Come quickly!

Amen

The darker this world gets, the higher we're supposed to hold the light.

I've read in a few places that there are actually more Chinese Christians than there are Chinese who belong to the Communist Party.

They can't be including soldiers in the People's Liberation Army of the Chinese Communist Party? I'd assume that the soldiers are pretty "indoctrinated" and believe in Communist Party.

There are 2,035,000 active members.

There are 510,000 reserve members.
