John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

President Donald Trump announced Thursday morning that he would shut down the U.S. – Mexico border if the throng of immigrants headed for the United States is not stopped. Trump posted several messages to Twitter Thursday addressing the 4,000+ member march of Guatemalan, Honduran and El Salvadoran nationals who intend to ...

The U.S. used to be a country that welcomed immigrants and many of those immigrants have made valuable contributions.  President Trump's beliefs on this issue are the thing I most dislike about his presidency.

This is a fallacious argument. You presume the United States, in the past, welcomed immigrants without regulation and restriction. When is the last time we had that policy?

The current policy is not anti-immigrant. There is just a legal way to do it. I don't understand why people have a problem with this.

This whole thing just sickens me.

If you want to come then come to this country legally.

Our American forefathers were willing to die (many of them did) for this nation. Why can't others do the same? Give me liberty or give me death.

You would not believe what someone I know is going through in order to get his wife into the USA. Tons of paperwork, tons of stress, tons of forms, misinformation, confusion. Did I mention money as well? On and on it goes. He joked me with the other day saying he should just get her to Mexico, fake her name, teach her some Spanish and just cross the border and bam she's in! But do it the normal LEGAL way? It takes forever. Fill out this form. Don't forget this, don't forget to sign that. One number is missing, one letter is missing. This fee oh and that fee. It's maddening!

Sad things is, she speaks excellent English and is well educated. Insufficient funds they were told. They slightly lacked a certain amount, so guess what happened to her........

 Denied!

My biggest concern about letting numerous foreign people into this country is that given enough time and eventual take over of our nation we would become a socialist state. Remember, these people have never known freedom and democracy. Hence , multiple votes for the democrats that only want one thing from these people ; Their vote !

What's to stop members of MS-13 from simply joining their ranks and then claim that they are political refugees as well?

They did in the past, and Obama's administration stated that judging a person by their tattoos was discrimination.

Nothing can and will stop them unless the president steps in with measures that the liberals will say " violates their constitutional rights ".  Nice, heh ! A tribe of gang related " workers " looking to join up with thugs already here to over run this nation with violence like we have never seen before. The president is going to have to use  military force to turn these people around and send them back. They have probably heard of the generosity of this nation and already have it fixed in their minds to take advantage of it . Considering what the president said concerning gang violence ,can you imagine the growth in city crime rates just in the illegal drug trade ? He must know something that the liberals     either do not want to know ,or simply cannot believe. After all everything is just " rosey, dosey " with the democrats. And the truth of the matter is that they view this influx of people as   votes and only votes !

I expect Mexico will do everything it can to make sure this isn't a problem.

I wish I could agree with you, but Mexico is not even planning to welcome these people. They know that the U.S. is their aim and they are just taking advantage of it by allowing them to pass through . It has already been mentioned that the trade deals with Mexico may be in jeopardy because the U.S. has a president that IS doing something about the problem.

It's a shame and very discouraging to hear something like this . Especially when there are more concerned citizens in this nation that would never think of doing any such thing .

Are you for open boarders ? While I am not an expert in the matter I can imagine what this nation would be like if the democrats had their way and did promote open boarders . Sorry, but " Not in my neighborhood ! "

I tried to run an ad on FB. They denied it and said that these are political views and may be national security issues. They refused to run the ad to this page. I asked them to review the page as an ad and they once again repeated the concern. Now I must authenticate my identification and citizenship by proving residence and uploading front and back pictures of my state identification. Can you imagine that?

I have to wait for a letter afterwards to my physical address to authenticate that I live where I say I live.

And yet some people would probably get angry that you would even point this out. Incredible.

My question is: If in some insane way they get let in what happens next time? Instead of several thousand how about a few million coming in all at once? If the former can get in then why not more soon thereafter?

open borders

Do some really want a border at all? It seems that they want it so open that a border becomes less and less existent...(extinct?)

From the perspective of the son of a legal immigrant, what is happening with the now 7,000 is not too much more than a political stunt, or testing our boarders.

If you want to be an immigrant, then immigrate. That means doing EXACTLY what my arenas did.  Submit the paperwork, follow the law and become citizens.

Thousands of people storming a boarder are not immigrants, they are an invasionary mob. And need to be treated as such.

Would you allow people you know nothing about to move into your home.  How about moving into your yard?  Your block? the development your family lives in? Maybe your town? County?   State?  If you would not allow this into your home isn't it hypocritical to expect some one else to do so

In 2018, the U.S. government will give Mexico $87,660,000 in foreign aid. The largest segment, 56 percent, will go toward peace and security. The second largest segment will go toward democracy, human rights and governance.

The amount would be $2 million less than the $67.8 million the U.S. had committed to spending in fiscal year 2018, which was already a steep drop from the $95.2 million the U.S. had set aside for Honduras in fiscal year 2017.

Guatemala

Meanwhile, the U.S. had allocated around $69.4 million toward foreign assistance for Guatemala to "address critical development challenges,

The $45.7 million dedicated to fiscal year 2019 would represent a drop, albeit a small one, from the $46.3 million dedicated in fiscal year 2018.

That number, however, represents a significant dive from the $72.7 million that the U.S. had planned to dedicate to El Salvador for fiscal year 2017.

I certainly wouldn't want someone I know nothing about moving into my home or yard, but I know nothing about the people who move into houses near mine.  There is as much of a chance that someone born in this country can be an undesirable neighbor as there is if he is from another country.

This is why it is insane to have open borders Theo. I really think the U.S. military should be prepared for the caravan at the border, and should "U.S. citizens" try to intervene the military should clearly identify and define the enemy which may be foreign or domestic threats to the Constitution.
