John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Upon encountering the title of this article one’s first thought might seem negative about it, but with all who become “born again” there is a period of growth that involves learning in the Word of God about the “old man,” which is the sin nature first seen in Adam and Eve, then in the entirety of their progeny—mankind (Rom 5:12-19). Upon rebirth the soul becomes “spiritually minded,” due to the imparting of the Spirit of God and the new nature (new man); and the old man continues to become more

by R.C. Sproul   It is ironic that in the same chapter, indeed in the same context, in which our Lord teaches the utter necessity of rebirth to even see the kingdom, let alone choose it, non-Reformed views find one of their main proof texts to argue that fallen man retains a small island of ability to choose Christ. It is John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”   What does this

    • Here’s Why Firefighters Couldn’t Save Notre Dame Cathedral |

By Joshua Gill - A Gothic engineering technique used to waterproof the top of Notre Dame cathedral made the structure impervious to firefighter’s efforts to douse the flames. The fire destroyed the cathedral’s roof, spire, and stained glass windows, and may have also destroyed a priceless Christian relic – Christ’s crown of thorns. The collapse of the cathedral’s vault also endangers the structural integrity of the cathedrals walls, is it can no longer counter the weight of the flying bu
