John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Salvation is a deliverance

Recommended Posts

There are many scriptures that speak of salvation, saved, and save.  Strong's definition means "a deliverance".  I believe there are some salvation scriptures that are referring to deliverance we receive here in time.  Are there any comments?

Doesn't this depend on "from or to" "what or who" we are being delivered?

For example, we won't be completely delivered from our flesh or from sin in this lifetime. However, we lean towards holiness as we are no longer animated by the soul because we are animated by the Spirit (regenerated).

Though, we are delivered or saved from God's wrath in this lifetime - we are delivered from God by God to God for God.
