John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

    • Should I Watch TV to Connect with Colleagues?

Is watching trash TV a sin? My husband describes ABC’s The Bachelor as “relationship porn.” But at my work, everyone watches reality shows, so it’s an easy way to both connect with my colleagues and discuss an alternative Christian viewpoint on relationships. In addition, my Reformed upbringing includes phrases like “common grace.” Are there some areas of media we should avoid altogether for our own godliness, even if it means giving up a possible avenue of connection? First, let me pose a rev

By R. Mitchell - The Pentagon revealed just how President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration enables the Department of Defense to secure our borders and illustrates just how little the restrictions in the funding bill actually mean. “The president has declared a national emergency on the southern border,” the Defense Department said Friday in a statement. “The president invoked sections 12302, 284(b)(7), and 2808 of Title 10, U.S. Code, and requires the use of the armed forces to

By Andrew Aleksi-Lankinen - Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) told Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) to “watch your ass” in response to applauding President Trump’s signing of “The Right to Try.” The signs do seem to be positive for those who wanted a genuine centrist and a reasonable Democrat with Senator Sinema as new analysis and looking back at the State of the Union footage appears to show Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) threatening Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) saying “watch your ass.” The line t

By Chris White - The Washington Post announced Saturday that it will premier an ad during Sunday’s Super Bowl LIII extolling the importance of journalism to a healthy democracy. The 60-second ad comes as hundreds of journalists lose their jobs amid mass media layoffs. “While most Super Bowl ad producers have the better part of a year, we had the lesser part of a week, but with an event this big, we decided to seize the opportunity,” Fred Ryan, publisher and CEO of WaPo, noted in a press st
