John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

During a traffic stop in Flagler County, Fla., a man pulled a gun on officers when they asked him to step out of his vehicle.

The incident was captured on body cam video by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Officers saw Brooks and recognized him from prior charges of aggravated battery on a person with a deadly weapon and lewd molestation, WNBD reported.

Police pulled over Alphonso Brooks, 39, for a stop sign violation. Narcotics K-9 identified a narcotics substance inside of the car at the intersection of North Church and East Howe.

Police ordered Brooks to exit his vehicle and that’s when he pulled a gun on officers who say the weapon was concealed.

An officer yelled: “He has a gun!” That’s when one officer pulled his gun and the other pinned him against his black Ford Sedan, removing the gun from him.

Police believe that Brooks may have been trying to shoot a deputy or commit suicide by pulling his weapon in hopes that officers would open fire.

Brooks was arrested on numerous charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, carrying a concealed firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition carried by a convicted felon.

Brooks is out of jail after posting a $50,000 bond.
