John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Poll Question: Creationism, OEC or YEC?

OEC = old earth creationism YEC = young earth creationism   Which view do you hold: old earth creationism or young earth creationism? This poll is not about evolution. Old earth creationism does not necessarily endorse or even imply evolution. We will save that question for another poll.   Tell us what you think and why.

    Genesis 18:22 (phenomenon)

I originally posted the following before on another forum but I would like to share this here as well:                Not everything found in Codices of Hebrew Bible nor in the printed editions of the Hebrew Bible is translated in Christian editions of the OT. There are numerous notes, list, and pages left by the Masoretes that are rarely if ever translated into English or any other modern language. Common examples of this include the Masorah Ketanah, Masorah Gedolah, keri uc

    kardiognōstēs: does it mean omniscient?

The Greek word kardiognōstēs ("heart-knower") is found in Acts 1:24 and Acts 15:8. This knowledge is expressed in many other passages of the Bible (1 Kings 8:39; Psalms 7:9; Jeremiah 17:10; Luke 16:15; 1 Thessalonians 2:4; Revelation 2:23; etc). Before I get to how this word is properly defined let me point out that although the Bible records that certain individuals had more insight than others (cf. 1 Kings 14:5; 2 Kings 6:12; 8:11-12; Acts 5:3-5) they were never said to be able to know the t

    Guess that Idiom (KJV)

I am posting this just for fun.  Most of us grew up using (and still do) the KJV.  When quoting a passage out loud from memory almost always, in my case, it is from the KJV.   I am going to cite a verse from the KJV.  In that verse is an idiom I will put in bold.  Without any other source other than the KJV itself (do not look at any modern translation that would be cheating) given the meaning of the idiom.  You may check the context of the verse in the KJV.   "And if any man

First Peter 2: 4-10 On the Transition of the Old Covenant To the New Covenant   First Peter 2:4-10 shows that Jesus Christ is the living stone who is the cornerstone, the foundation of the spiritual house made up of those who are united to Christ. through their relationship with him., Believers identify with Christ, and so they too are living stones.   This text reveals Peter’s way of interpreting the Old Testament, and the way God remade Israel as he promised to do in Jeremi
